Refrigerated breastmilk can usually be kept for 3 days. According to La Leche League International guidelines, breastmilk can be stored for up to 3 hours at room temperature, up to 3 days in the refrigerator at 4°C, and up to 3 months in the freezer for healthy full-term infants. It is also recommended that breastmilk, whether refrigerated or frozen, be stored separately and not mixed with food to minimize contamination, reduce the number of times the refrigerator is opened, and ensure that the storage temperature is stable. Refrigerated breastmilk needs to be heated to body temperature using a water bath or breastfeeder before giving it to the baby, and heated breastmilk should preferably be consumed within one hour, and cannot be refrigerated or frozen again. Therefore, parents are advised to store and heat breastmilk according to their baby’s milk requirement to minimize contamination and waste. Refrigerated breastmilk can be kept for 3 days. Scientific storage and heating of breastmilk is recommended to minimize nutrient loss.
