What is a good anesthesiologist?

In your eyes, what qualities do anesthesiologists need to possess? Which competencies are more important? The answers are obviously varied. Shiels S of the Royal Berkshire Hospital in the UK did a questionnaire on this. Whereas in the past, most similar studies have asked only anesthesiologists, her study surveyed colleagues such as surgeons and nurse anesthetists. The combined analysis concluded that a good anesthesiologist should have the following elements: competence (50%), communication skills (40%), tolerance (36%), and accessibility (29%). To put it simply, the first requirement of a good anesthesiologist is competence, followed by good communication skills and the ability to withstand pressure. From this perspective, the ability to perform anesthesia for common and special cases is an operational skill, which is considered professionally competent. A good anesthesiologist should take responsibility for team communication in the perioperative period and must also be able to resist stress. It is easier said than done, so let’s work hard.
