Coronary artery bypass and coronary artery stent are not the same thing. Coronary artery bypass is the scope of work of surgeons, while coronary artery stent is the scope of work of cardiologists. Coronary artery bypass grafting and coronary artery stenting are procedures taken for coronary artery disease, that is, coronary artery atherosclerosis leading to coronary artery stenosis, which causes myocardial ischemia, that is, coronary artery disease, as follows: 1. Coronary artery stenting: Through peripheral blood vessels, such as the radial artery or the femoral artery at the root of the thigh, percutaneous puncture of the cardiac catheter and stent to the site of the narrowed coronary artery, propping up the coronary artery from the inside The stenosis is restored to the coronary artery from the inside. There is no incision for coronary stenting, only the puncture point, no general anesthesia is required, and it can be done in the catheterization laboratory. 2. Coronary artery bypass surgery: performed in the operating room under general anesthesia, the cardiac surgeon needs to saw open the patient’s sternum medially and prop up the sternum to reveal the heart. The coronary artery bypass surgery can be completed under extracorporeal circulation or with the heart beating normally. The surgical incision can be a lateral incision and the size of the incision can be chosen according to the situation. The bypass material is usually the internal mammary artery or the saphenous vein or radial artery. One end of the bypass vessel is anastomosed to the distal end of the stenosed artery, and the other end is anastomosed to the aorta so that blood flow can bypass the stenosed coronary artery from the aorta and reach the distal myocardium to restore blood supply to the myocardium.
