Pemetrexed disodium is a chemotherapy drug.
Pemetrexed disodium is an antifolate agent that inhibits tumor growth by disrupting the normal folate-dependent metabolic processes within cells and inhibiting cell replication.
In combination with cisplatin, it is indicated as first-line chemotherapy for patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-squamous cell type non-small cell lung cancer.
It is indicated as a single agent for the maintenance treatment of patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer who have not progressed after 4 cycles of platinum-based first-line chemotherapy.
This product alone is indicated for the treatment of patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-squamous cell type non-small cell lung cancer that has progressed after prior first-line chemotherapy.
It is contraindicated in people with a history of severe allergy to this product or other components of the drug. Vaccination against yellow fever is contraindicated with concomitant use of this drug.
Common adverse reactions that may occur with pemetrexed disodium include fatigue, nausea, and loss of appetite. Common adverse reactions when combined with cisplatin include vomiting, neutropenia, leukopenia, anemia, stomatitis/pharyngitis, thrombocytopenia, and constipation.
The dosage of pemetrexed disodium varies when it is used to treat different indications, so it should be used under the supervision of a physician. If adverse reactions occur during the use of the drug, you should promptly communicate with your doctor.
