What to know after a medical abortion

Medication abortion has the advantages of being easy, not involving surgical operation and less painful. But after all, there is a certain degree of damage to the endometrium, and incomplete abortion will occur in about 10% of drug abortion patients. 1. Observation in the hospital. After the elimination of the pregnancy capsule, you should observe in the hospital for one hour and leave the hospital only if there is no discomfort. If there is abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding, the doctor will take appropriate measures. 2.What may happen after leaving the hospital. (1) Vaginal bleeding: There will be a small amount of vaginal bleeding for a period of time after a medical abortion, which will last longer than after a surgical abortion. If the bleeding is greater than the usual amount of menstruation (the amount of bleeding on the same day compared with the usual menstruation), and if the vaginal bleeding lasts for more than 2 weeks, you should go to the hospital promptly. (2) Abdominal pain: slight lower abdominal pain may be felt for a few days after the operation. If there is more obvious abdominal pain, prompt hospital consultation is required. (3) Fever: There should be no fever under normal circumstances. If you feel cold or uncomfortable, please take your own temperature. If the temperature rises above 37.5℃, or if there is severe abdominal pain, or if there is a lot of vaginal bleeding, etc., seek prompt hospital consultation. (1) If the gestational sac has not been eliminated at the time of observation, you should return to the hospital for follow-up examination 1 week after the administration of the medication. (2) If the gestational sac is expelled at the time of observation, you should return to the hospital for a follow-up consultation 2 weeks after the drug is administered. (3) All subjects should return to the hospital for a follow-up consultation 6 weeks after the drug abortion, especially when menstruation does not resume in time. 3. Prevent infection. Don’t have sex, avoid using menstrual tampons, and take a tub bath before menstruation resumes, especially after medical abortion; keep the vulva clean and change sanitary napkins and underwear regularly. 4.Resume normal life. (1) It is recommended to rest for 2 weeks after the operation. (2) Pay attention to nutrition, appropriately supplement foods rich in protein, iron and vitamins, without over-supplementation. (3) Avoid strenuous exercise and heavy physical activities in the early post-abortion period to avoid aggravating abdominal pain and increasing vaginal bleeding. (4) If you plan to live here, you should wait for 6 months after abortion and it is appropriate for your body condition to recover well. Because the endometrium of the uterus is damaged in different ways after abortion, it needs a recovery process after the operation, such as premature pregnancy is not conducive to the fertilized egg bed and development, and may easily cause spontaneous abortion. 5, the implementation of contraceptive measures to avoid another unwanted pregnancy. (1) There is no “safe period” after abortion, and once you resume sexual life, you may have another unplanned pregnancy. (2) After resuming sexual intercourse, a reliable contraceptive method should be used. Short-acting oral contraceptive pill: can be used after a successful abortion; IUD: can be placed after the return of menstruation; condom: can be used when resuming sexual intercourse; (3) The schedule projection method is not recommended before menstruation resumes regularly or if you cannot grasp it correctly.
