The sternocleidomastoid muscle is attached to the sternocleidomastoid joint, and there are many veins and lymph nodes in the superficial layer below, and there are arteries, nerves, lymphatic ducts, trachea, sternocleidomastoid muscle and sternocleid thyroid muscle in the deeper layer. Above the superior sternal fossa is the location of the thyroid gland of the body, while below the superior sternal fossa, behind the sternum, is the aortic arch of the body. Clinically, we use the observation of the superior sternal fossa, the superior clavicular fossa, and the intercostal space to determine whether there is airway obstruction by observing whether the concavity of these three locations increases during breathing, especially during inspiration. This location is also the location of the Tian Tu acupoint among the meridian points, which is an acupoint of the Ren Vessel among the eight Qi meridians, and is also the meeting point of the Ren and Yin Wei Vessels, mainly treating cough, asthma, chest pain, sore throat, plum pneumonia, and choking.
