Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae and Radix Astragali in water together can be used to tonify qi and strengthen the spleen, regulate qi and resolve phlegm, but the efficacy of the medicines in water is limited.
1. Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae is a qi tonic medicine, which is effective in tonifying qi and strengthening the spleen, drying dampness and resolving phlegm (expelling dampness and resolving phlegm by drying dampness), and is used for distension of the epigastric region (stomach, epigastric region and abdominal distension), poor appetite and vomiting and diarrhea, and coughing with profuse phlegm.
2. Astragalus is a qi tonic that tonifies qi and rises yang, stops sweating by consolidating the surface of the muscle, induces diuresis, generates fluid and nourishes blood, promotes stagnation and paralysis (to make the paralyzed meridians smooth), supports toxin and pus (to expel pus and poison from the body), converges the sores to produce muscle (to help the sores to heal more quickly, and to promote the growth of new flesh).
It can be used in treating qi deficiency and weakness, bleeding in stool and leakage, sweating due to deficiency of surface (frequent natural sweating due to weakness of muscle surface), edema due to deficiency of qi, internal heat and thirst (internal fever accompanied by symptoms such as eating, drinking and urinating), carbuncle and gangrene (a kind of venomous sores, which occur on the surface of the body, the limbs, and the internal organs of the acute suppurative disease) that are difficult to ulcerate, and do not converge after prolonged ulceration.
Taken together in water, the above two herbs can be used to tonify qi and strengthen the spleen, regulate qi and resolve phlegm. However, it is difficult to analyze the full medicinal ingredients of Chen Pi and Astragalus together in water, so their effects are limited and they cannot replace medication in treating diseases.
It should be noted that qi deficiency, yin deficiency should be careful with Chen Pi, surface solid evil, internal stagnation, yin deficiency and hyperactivity, sores and ulcers at the beginning or after the collapse of the heat and toxicity is not suitable for the use of astragalus. In order to ensure that the use of medication is reasonable, should be used under the guidance of the doctor’s identification of single or combined use of Chinese herbal medicines, to avoid improper use of medication to cause damage to the body.
