Can you still feel your breast implants?

Breast implant alone usually does not affect normal breast sensation, whereas implant reconstruction after total mastectomy may affect normal breast sensation. Breast sensation is usually defined as the response of the nipple-areola complex to stimulation, which is strongly felt due to the presence of abundant sensory nerve endings in the nipple-areola complex. Therefore, breast sensation is not affected as long as the nipple-areola complex is not damaged. Normal implant placement surgery is usually done through the axillary approach, where the implant is placed under the pectoralis major muscle without damaging the nerves and blood supply to the nipple-areola complex, and therefore will not affect breast sensation. In the case of breast implant reconstruction after total mastectomy, breast sensation is greatly affected because the nerves and blood supply to the nipple-areola complex are damaged.
