In the early stage of pregnancy, the mother may experience cold, dizziness, salivation, weakness, drowsiness, decreased appetite, sour food, aversion to greasy food, stomach discomfort, morning sickness and other symptoms, which are called early pregnancy reaction; they often appear around 6 weeks of pregnancy and most of them disappear on their own after 12 weeks of pregnancy. The above early pregnancy symptoms can appear together or separately. Some pregnant women mainly show obvious stomach discomfort (nausea, acid reflux, burning sensation, indigestion, etc.), which is similar to the gastrointestinal manifestations of acute gastroenteritis. After pregnancy, placental trophoblast cells secrete a large amount of progesterone, which reduces the maternal smooth muscle tone and muscle relaxation, such as relaxation of the gastric cardia sphincter, and acidic gastric contents in the stomach flow back to the lower esophagus to produce a feeling of heartburn, i.e. nausea and acid reflux in the stomach; the gastric emptying time is prolonged, and a feeling of fullness in the upper abdomen, i.e. flatulence and indigestion, is likely to occur. For women of childbearing age who have normal sexual life, stomach discomfort can be identified by combining the clinical manifestations of early pregnancy with the results of auxiliary investigations; early pregnancy usually has obvious history of menopause and breast changes (breast swelling and pain, nipple enlargement, areola deepening); hospital visit to check blood HCG is elevated, negative ultrasound indicates early intrauterine pregnancy; if the above conditions are present, stomach discomfort is mainly considered to be caused by pregnancy; if the above symptoms are not obvious and the results of auxiliary investigations are negative, we can rule out the possibility of pregnancy. If the above symptoms are not obvious and the results are negative, pregnancy can be ruled out and stomach discomfort is mainly considered to be caused by digestive tract diseases, such as acute gastroenteritis and chronic gastritis.
