The upward rolling of the eyes of infants may be a normal phenomenon, or it may be caused by inverted eyelashes and other diseases.
1. Normal phenomenon: within a short period of time after the birth of infants, the coordination function of the eyeballs is relatively poor, when infants look after objects, it is possible to appear the phenomenon of upward rolling of the eyes. If the infant has no tearing, eye position deviation and other discomforts except for the upward rolling of the eyes, no special treatment is needed, and the infant can be observed and followed up.
2. Pathological phenomenon: impingement refers to the state of eyelashes growing backward toward the eyeball, impingement can be only 1 to 2, or several or more in a row all growing backward irregularly, in contact with the baby’s conjunctiva, cornea, the baby will have upward whitening of the eyes, photophobia, tearing, pain, and a sense of foreign body and other symptoms.
It is recommended that infants with upward-facing white eyes and other discomforts consult a doctor for evaluation of their condition and treatment under the doctor’s supervision.
