Myelin delay is not necessarily cerebral palsy. Symptoms of myelin delay and cerebral palsy differ in that cerebral palsy is primarily characterized by movement disorders and may be accompanied by mental retardation and seizures. On the other hand, myelin delay is one of the common imaging manifestations of cerebral palsy and does not necessarily present with symptoms. Therefore, patients with cerebral palsy usually have delayed myelin development, but patients with delayed myelin development do not necessarily have cerebral palsy. Delayed myelin development refers to the asynchrony between myelin and cortical development. There is no effective clinical treatment for this condition, but in severe cases it can be treated with medications, including rat nerve growth factor, gangliosides, and other nutritive drugs. Patients suffering from delayed myelin development are advised to seek medical treatment as soon as possible, and need active treatment and rehabilitation training, regular monitoring of growth and development, attention to a balanced diet, and appropriate supplementation of calcium and vitamin D, etc.
