High thyroglobulin may be related to thyroiditis or impaired thyroid function and thyroid cancer or recurrence of thyroid cancer, etc. The treatment usually includes medication and surgery.
1. Drug treatment: Lymphocytic thyroiditis, subthyroiditis, suppurative thyroiditis, and high-functioning adenoma are common in clinic. These inflammatory or adenomatous diseases damage the thyroid gland. Rupture of the follicles of the thyroid gland causes the release of thyroxine into the bloodstream, which then stimulates the body to produce antibodies to thyroglobulin, and elevated thyroglobulin also occurs.
Medications such as levothyroxine sodium can be applied according to the thyroid function.
2. Surgical treatment: elevated thyroglobulin can also be seen in some thyroid tumors, including malignant thyroid cancer, papillary medullary carcinoma, etc. If thyroid cancer is found, it needs to be treated by surgical resection.
Thyroglobulin is also used as an indicator to monitor the recurrence of thyroid cancer, and has high sensitivity and specificity for the recurrence of thyroid cancer. Thyroglobulin may also be elevated in patients with thyroid cancer who have residual tumor tissue or metastatic lesions after surgery, requiring further surgical treatment or radiotherapy if necessary.
There are other reasons for high thyroglobulin, it is suggested that patients with high thyroglobulin need to go to regular hospitals for further examination and treatment under the guidance of specialists.
