Middle esophageal cancer refers to malignant tumors of the esophagus occurring in the mid-thoracic esophagus, and patients will have symptoms such as difficulty in swallowing, local pain, vomiting blood, black stools, and some of them will also be accompanied by weight loss. According to the anatomical location, the middle esophagus starts from the lower edge of the arch of the odd vein and goes down to the lower edge of the lower pulmonary vein (i.e., between the levels of the pulmonary hilum). It is sandwiched anteriorly between the two pulmonary hilums, adjacent to the descending thoracic aorta on the left side, adjacent to the spine posteriorly, and free and directly adjacent to the pleura on the right side. Endoscopically, it is usually 25-30 cm away from the incisors, and the clinical manifestations of esophageal cancer occurring in this area mainly include progressive dysphagia, localized pain, vomiting of blood, black stool, and so on. 1. Difficulty in swallowing: patients with esophageal cancer will have choking sensation when swallowing solid food, and with the development of the disease, some patients will have difficulty in swallowing semi-fluid or fluid food. 2. Localized pain: patients with mid-thoracic esophageal cancer will also have pain at the back of sternum and scapula, and patients will have persistent severe pain. 3. Vomiting blood, black stool: patients with mid-thoracic esophageal cancer may invade important blood vessels, which may cause gastrointestinal bleeding, mainly vomiting blood, and a few patients may have black stool. 4. Other symptoms: Mesothoracic esophageal cancer may also be accompanied by weight loss and emaciation, etc. If esophageal cancer invades the larynx, it may cause pain. If esophageal cancer invades the larynx, it will be manifested as hoarseness, and if esophageal cancer invades the trachea, it will be manifested as dyspnea or hemoptysis. For patients diagnosed with mid-thoracic esophageal cancer, it is recommended to take targeted measures for treatment under the guidance of specialized doctors. Patients should ensure enough rest, keep a relaxed mood and refrain from smoking and drinking. In terms of diet, patients should eat less spicy food such as chili or peppers, and can eat tomatoes, cucumbers and other foods rich in vitamin C in moderation.
