Orthodontic tooth extractions are performed in order to utilize the extraction gaps to move the remaining teeth. Before extraction, the orthodontist will take detailed measurements and analyze the patient’s x-rays and dental models to calculate the location and number of teeth to be extracted based on the gaps needed to align and move the teeth. In the process of orthodontic treatment, the neighboring teeth will gradually move into the extraction gap until they are completely occupied, so orthodontic patients do not need to have their teeth set again after extraction.
