Is it okay if the fracture swells up again after a month?

The swelling after one month of fracture may be related to the severity of the injury, treatment method, rehabilitation training and other factors, generally speaking, it is a normal phenomenon. If the patient had a serious injury at that time, and only had conservative plaster or brace fixation after the injury, and did not have surgical incision and reduction internal fixation, it is generally normal for the swelling to appear again after one month. Because after the injury, the small blood vessels around the fracture as well as the lymphatic vessels will be destroyed, and the local blood circulation is not good during the reconstruction process, then the swelling may occur. If the patient’s injury is mild or if the injury is treated surgically and the swelling returns after one month, it is generally related to rehabilitation. Edema may occur when the muscles around the injury become congested and soft tissue exudation increases during rehabilitation, and when the injury itself causes poor local blood flow. This kind of edema usually occurs repeatedly along with the rehabilitation training, and gradually disappears in about 3 months to half a year. If the patient’s swelling is severe, or if the symptoms persist without improvement, he or she should go to the hospital for treatment.
