Saffron contraindications

Saffron has no clear clinical contraindications, but should be used with caution in pregnant women. Saffron is categorized as a blood-activating medicine in traditional Chinese medicine and belongs to the dried stigma of saffron in the family of Iridaceae. The clinical effects of this medicine are to activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis (promoting blood circulation and eliminating blood stasis in the body), cool blood and remove toxins (referring to the treatment of blood-heat and toxins), and relieve depression and tranquilize the mind (stabilizing the mind by relieving depressive moods). It can be used to treat pain in the joints of the limbs caused by blood stasis, headache, stabbing pain mainly, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, menstrual irregularities, and obstruction in the abdomen, etc. It can also be used to treat warm poisonous spots (warm-heat poisonous evils invading the body resulting in blotchy, patchy skin), as well as depression, madness, and other abnormalities of the emotions and moods.
