Do you need fasting for abdominal MRI?

When doing an abdominal MRI, it is best to do it on an empty stomach, which is determined by the principle of magnetic resonance imaging. MRI is to add a stronger magnetic field to the body, which will then excite the water molecules in the body and produce certain reflections, the more water there is, the more its reflections. When water is consumed, this excess fluid will mix with the signals produced by the tissues in the body, and the final image will be more confusing, making it impossible for the imaging physician to make a correct result. And, if the patient has a pathological condition such as a large amount of ascites, it can also interfere with the final result. Therefore, it is best to fast from food and water for more than 6-8 hours before having an abdominal MRI so that it can be observed more clearly. Also, metal objects should not be carried on the body when doing this test, as these can interfere with the examination.
