Lumbar disc herniation belongs to the category of “lumbago” in Chinese medicine. Kidney-Yang deficiency is characterized by coldness of the limbs, hidden pain in the waist, warmth and pressure, lingering pain, pale tongue, white moss, and fine pulse. Kidney Yin deficiency is characterized by lumbar pain, heartburn, dry mouth, hot flashes (a burst of fever), night sweating, red tongue with little moss and thin pulse.
