What is cryptogenic immune diabetes mellitus in adults?

Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is a type of diabetes characterized by slow autoimmune damage to pancreatic β-cells in the early clinical period that is not dependent on insulin therapy. Latent autoimmune diabetes in adults (LADA) is a type of diabetes caused by slow autoimmune damage to pancreatic β-cells. According to the etiologic classification, LADA belongs to the autoimmune subtype of type 1 diabetes mellitus.LADA is not dependent on insulin treatment in the early stage, and it is easy to be misdiagnosed as type 2 diabetes mellitus. The diagnostic criteria for LADA recommended by our guideline consensus are: (1) age of onset ≥18 years; (2) islet autoantibody positivity; and (3) insulin-independent treatment for at least half a year after the diagnosis of diabetes mellitus. The diagnosis of LADA can be made by having all three of these items. Cryptogenic immune diabetes mellitus in adults should be treated under medical supervision.
