Doxycycline and Levofloxacin Difference

The difference between doxycycline and levofloxacin lies in different categories, different antibacterial spectrums, different mechanisms of action and different contraindications.
1. Different categories: Doxycycline is divided into tablets, dispersible tablets, capsules, etc., which is a tetracycline antibiotic; Levofloxacin is commonly used as tablets, eye drops, injections, etc., which is a quinolone antibacterial drug.
2. Antimicrobial spectrum: Doxycycline is used for the treatment of rickettsial disease; mycoplasma and chlamydia infections, regression fever, brucellosis, cholera, rabbit fever, bubonic plague, soft chancre and so on. Levofloxacin is suitable for sensitive gram-negative bacteria and gram-positive bacteria caused by the respiratory system, urinary system, digestive system, skin and soft tissue, stomatology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, dermatology and other infections
3. Mechanism of action: the main mechanism of doxycycline is to interfere with bacterial protein synthesis; levofloxacin mechanism of action is to inhibit ribonucleic acid synthesis, affecting bacterial DNA replication, transcription, repair and reorganization, to play an antibacterial role.
4. Contraindications: Doxycycline is contraindicated in patients with a history of allergy to any of the tetracyclines; Levofloxacin is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to quinolones, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and patients under 18 years of age.
When patients need to apply antibiotics, they should go to the hospital to confirm the diagnosis and then use under the guidance of doctors, avoid applying antibiotics on their own to prevent the occurrence of no indications, abuse or overdose of antibiotics. Normally, patients should exercise properly to enhance physical fitness, pay attention to light diet, and go to the hospital in time for treatment of adverse drug reactions.
