What’s the omicron strain?

The Omicron strain is a mutated strain of Neocoronavirus. The Omicron strain has more than thirty mutations in the gene for the spiking protein, some of which may cause the virus to undergo immune escape, thereby reducing the efficacy of the NeoCoronavirus vaccine and therapeutic drugs. Patients infected with the omicron variant have mild clinical symptoms and chest imaging, but are highly contagious. The main characteristics of the omicron strain include rapid transmission, insidiousness, and penetration. The transmission of the omicron strain is 3 to 4 times that of delta, with an incubation period of about 2 to 3 days on average, and the strongest transmission within 5 days after the onset of the disease. In terms of clinical cases, most patients are asymptomatic and have mild chest imaging, and some are even asymptomatic or lack specific symptoms. The virus can be transmitted through daily objects and public supplies. Therefore, all kinds of people need to strengthen the awareness of protection and reduce unnecessary touching to avoid increasing the risk of infection.
