Chest pain when lifting arms may be related to frozen shoulder, costochondritis, intercostal neuralgia, rib fracture and so on. 1. Frozen shoulder: degeneration of ligaments and joint capsule of shoulder joint and bad habits may cause frozen shoulder, which may radiate to chest pain when lifting arms. 2. Costochondritis: generally due to long time working at desk, repeated coughing, etc., the costal cartilage area is constantly squeezed, causing aseptic inflammation, and the costal cartilage area will be stressed when lifting the arm, which will lead to the symptom of chest pain. 3. Intercostal neuralgia: Intercostal neuralgia refers to the pain symptoms in the intercostal innervated area produced by the thoracic nerve root or intercostal nerve due to different damages. The pain is tingling or burning pain, mostly in the chest or abdomen in a band-like distribution, the pain is aggravated when coughing, deep breathing or sneezing, and it also causes chest pain when lifting the arm. 4. Rib fracture: when the rib fracture, lift the arm on the affected side, because of the relative displacement of the broken end of the rib, thus producing pain and discomfort in the corresponding area, attention should be paid to braking, chest strap fixation.
