If chlorine is smelled in a swimming pool and poisoning occurs, it may manifest as eye and respiratory symptoms, such as dry sore eyes or dry pain in the nasopharynx, and if the respiratory tract is irritated, there may be an irritating cough or induced asthma, shortness of breath and other manifestations. If the skin is exposed to chlorine, it may cause a generalized rash that is mainly itchy. If there is edema in the larynx or lungs, shortness of breath and dyspnea may occur, as well as dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting and other central nervous system symptoms, and in severe cases, coma may result.
