Why Calcification of Rib Cartilage is a “Cold Case” in Rib Rhinoplasty

The so-called rib rhinoplasty refers to a kind of plastic surgery that extracts the rib cartilage from the body as the material for rhinoplasty and transplants it to the nose to change the height and shape of the nose, so as to make the nose harmonize with the other parts of the face. The effect of rib cartilage rhinoplasty can usually achieve a long-term maintenance cycle, and the autologous rib cartilage is a substance in the human body, so it does not have any reaction to the candidate’s own body, and the candidate does not need to worry too much about the effect of the rib cartilage removal, because the rib cartilage can be regenerated after the removal of the rib cartilage, and there is no obstacle to the function of the body itself, so rib cartilage rhinoplasty has been very popular in recent years. Normal non-calcified rib cartilage is jade-white in color and has a certain softness, which is easy to remove and easy to carve, and the shaped nose is basically the same as the original nose. Calcified rib cartilage is yellowish, gradually hardens, easily folded and fragile, with poor resistance to infection, coupled with the difficulty of carving and suturing details, the postoperative period often fails to achieve the desired results. So calcified rib cartilage is excluded from rib rhinoplasty. However, there is another special case exists, which is the rib that has been calcified partly but not completely. In this case, the surgery needs to be evaluated according to the height and the condition of the nose. If the quality of the rib cartilage is not good and the nose requires high quality, it cannot be improved. Because the rib nose lasts longer and is significantly better than other types of rhinoplasty in terms of rejection and allergies, it is slightly better than other types of surgery on its own terms.
