World Hemophilia Day is celebrated on April 17 every year. To commemorate the contribution of the founder of the World Federation of Hemophilia, Canadian-born Frank Schoonmaker, to hemophilia, and to raise public awareness of hemophilia, his birthday, April 17, has been designated as World Hemophilia Day since 1989. Hemophilia is an X-chromosome linked recessive hereditary bleeding disorder. It has long been prevalent among royalty in several European countries, giving it the prestigious title of “royal disease.
