Hemophilia is a condition for which artificial insemination is possible if you are eligible. However, a prenatal genetic diagnosis is required to see if the fetus has inherited the disease as well. Artificial insemination (AI) is a non-coital method of injecting sperm from the male partner into the female partner’s reproductive tract in order to fertilize her. It is suitable for men who are infertile due to abnormal semen or sexual dysfunction, and women who are infertile due to ovulation disorders or endometriosis that cannot be improved by medication. IUI can also be considered if the male partner suffers from hereditary diseases that are not suitable for childbearing, or if the mother and child have serious blood group incompatibility. Therefore, if one of the spouses is eligible for artificial insemination, this means of conception can be used even if he or she has hemophilia. However, it should be noted that since hemophilia is hereditary and can cause severe blood clotting disorders, genetic diagnosis is recommended prior to delivery, and if the fetus is also affected, both parents should be informed to decide whether or not to terminate the pregnancy in order to ensure eugenic fertility.
