Renal atrophy refers to the pathology of kidney’s renal unit loss and volume reduction due to various reasons, there is no preferred medication, only active treatment of the primary disease and symptomatic supportive treatment. Surgery can be performed if necessary. 1. Actively treat the primary disease: renal diseases that cause renal atrophy are mainly glomerulonephritis, renal artery stenosis, etc. Only by actively treating these diseases can renal atrophy be improved. For example, patients with renal artery stenosis can be treated with angioplasty, and renal atrophy can be recovered after lifting the urinary tract obstruction; however, for chronic renal atrophy caused by glomerulonephritis, medication can only slow down the progression of the disease. 2. Symptomatic treatment: Symptomatic supportive treatment includes combining work and rest, abstaining from smoking and drinking, low-salt and low-protein diet. Anemia patients can follow the doctor’s instructions to supplement iron, folic acid, erythropoietin, etc. Hypertensive patients with renal atrophy can also improve renal atrophy after antihypertensive treatment, nephritis patients can follow the doctor’s instructions to oral prednisone acetate, cyclosporine and other medications to delay the progress of the disease. 3. Surgery: If renal atrophy is caused by kidney stones, urinary tract tumors, etc., surgical treatment can be considered. Patients with renal atrophy are advised to go to regular hospitals in time, follow the doctor’s instructions for standardized treatment, and not self-medication to avoid delaying the condition.
