Does adenomyosis delay menstruation?

Adenomyosis generally refers to adenomyosis of the uterus, which usually does not delay menstruation, but may present with excessive menstrual flow, prolonged menstrual periods, and progressively worsening progressive dysmenorrhea. Adenomyosis refers to the invasion of endometrial glands and mesenchymal stroma into the myometrium, which will in result in diffuse growth of the myometrium, causing the uterus to increase in size. Adenomyosis also causes progressive dysmenorrhea that gradually worsens, mostly starting one week before menstruation until the end of menstruation, and in severe cases, there will be radiating pain in the lower abdomen, lumbar-sacral, pelvic, perineal, anal, and thigh areas. But there are also 35% of patients without typical symptoms. Delayed menstruation may be related to a number of other factors, such as mental overstress, overwork, irregular diet, and pregnancy-related factors. If adenomyosis is diagnosed, symptoms of delayed menstruation should be further consulted and communicated to the doctor in a timely manner and dealt with on a case-by-case basis.
