The prognosis of Hodgkin’s disease is much better than non-Hodgkin’s disease: (1) The 5-year survival rate of stage I and II can reach 98%, which is one of the curable malignant tumors, and most patients with stage I and II can be treated with radiation therapy alone. (2) Apparently enlarged lymph nodes in the chest should be given chemotherapy before or after radiotherapy, and 85% of patients can be cured by this combined treatment. (3) The treatment of stage III Hodgkin’s disease varies with each case. If the patient is asymptomatic, radiation therapy alone can sometimes be given and 65%-75% of patients can be cured. The addition of chemotherapy can increase the likelihood of cure to 75-80%. If the patient is symptomatic, chemotherapy or radiation therapy should be given, with a cure rate between 70% and 80% of such patients. For stage IV patients, combination chemotherapy is usually used, and the 5-year survival rate drops to 31.9%. Whether lymphoma can be cured or not depends on the tissue type and pathological stage of the tumor, patient’s physical condition, and whether the treatment is appropriate. Proper lymphoma treatment plan can greatly increase the patient’s chance of cure, but the toxic side effects of radiotherapy are great, which can be considered to be alleviated by TCM. Modern Chinese medicine Ginsenoside Rh2 is effective in suppressing toxic side effects during radiotherapy, and it can also reverse the body’s resistance to chemotherapy drugs, thus increasing the effectiveness and reducing the toxicity, and alleviating the side effects of radiotherapy.
