What to do about paroxysmal abdominal cramps

Paroxysmal abdominal cramps may be caused by acute gastroenteritis, peptic ulcer, gallstones and other diseases, which can be relieved by general treatment, medication and surgery.
1. General treatment: patients can relieve the pain by gentle massage on the abdomen or drinking more hot water, etc. Usually, they should pay attention to keep the abdomen warm, avoid catching cold, quit smoking and drinking, and avoid eating foods that are irritating to the intestinal tract, such as chili pepper, ginger, strong tea, strong coffee, barbecue and so on. Ensure enough sleep, avoid staying up late.
2. Medication: patients with severe pain, you can take scopolamine, atropine and other antispasmodic painkillers to relieve, but these drugs may mask the condition, generally not recommended before a clear diagnosis, so as not to affect the doctor’s judgment.
If it is due to acute gastroenteritis, you can take norfloxacin, gentamicin, cephalosporin and other antibiotics for anti-infection treatment; if it is due to peptic ulcer, accompanied by Helicobacter pylori infection, you can take amoxicillin, clarithromycin, bismuth potassium citrate, omeprazole and other quadruple therapy.
3. Surgery: If the patient is caused by bile duct stones, gastrointestinal tumors, intestinal obstruction, small intestinal torsion and other diseases, surgery can be considered.
If the patient has long-term or recurrent paroxysmal abdominal colic, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time and actively receive treatment. Drugs must be taken strictly in accordance with the doctor’s instructions, not self-medication, so as not to delay or even aggravate the condition.
