The type of surgery done for intestinal obstruction has a lot to do with the type of intestinal obstruction. If the obstruction is caused by intestinal adhesions with band compression or internal hernia, the intestinal obstruction can be relieved by releasing the adhesions and eliminating the band compression and internal hernia. If it is caused by a tumor, the tumor should be removed and the intestine should be reanastomosed. If the intestinal obstruction is caused by intestinal torsion, the torsion should be reset, and if the torsional intestine is necrotic, the necrotic intestine should be removed. If the intestinal obstruction is caused by thrombosis, the blood vessel should be cut and the thrombosis removed, and if there is intestinal necrosis, the necrotic intestine should also be removed and reanastomosed. There are two conditions of intestinal obstruction that cannot be operated: 1. paralytic intestinal obstruction. 2. pseudocolonic obstruction. These two kinds of intestinal obstruction must be treated conservatively by medication only, and surgery is contraindicated; if surgery is performed, it may cause raw very serious adverse consequences.
