Why does a bee sting swell?

After being stung by a bee, patients do experience significant localized skin swelling, pain, and itching. For patients who are already sensitive, serious conditions may be induced, such as anaphylactic shock in some cases. The reason for this is directly related to the characteristics of the bee itself, which injects venom into the human body through its stinger while stinging. An important component of the venom is acidic substances, like hydrochloric acid and anthranilic acid, which can cause severe local skin irritation to the patient, and also contains a venom that is alkaline venom, which contains neurotoxins. Therefore, some patients who are stung very badly by bees may also suffer from serious cases of shock and coma.
