Is it better to take valacyclovir before or after a meal?

Valaciclovir Hydrochloride (Tablet) is recommended to be taken before meals. Valacyclovir hydrochloride tablets are used for the treatment of varicella-zoster and herpes simplex virus type I and type II infections, including primary and recurrent genital herpes virus infections. As directed, vasiclovir hydrochloride tablets need to be taken on an empty stomach before meals. Common adverse reactions to vasiclovir hydrochloride tablets include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headache, diarrhea, thirst, and decreased white blood cells. Allergy to valacyclovir hydrochloride and pregnant women are contraindicated. Use with caution in those who are dehydrated or have pre-existing hepatic or renal insufficiency, and lactating women. It is advisable to drink plenty of water during the medication to prevent acyclovir from precipitating in the renal tubules. Prolonged or repeated treatment with valacyclovir hydrochloride tablets in severely immunocompromised individuals may cause herpes simplex virus and herpes zoster virus to become resistant to valacyclovir hydrochloride. The susceptibility of herpes simplex virus to this product should be tested in persons whose lesions do not improve. Vasiclovir hydrochloride tablets are prescription medications and should be used under the supervision of a doctor.
