Conization is generally a minor gynecological procedure that is short and relatively simple to perform. Cervical conization is a treatment currently used to treat pre-cancerous lesions of the cervix by removing the lesion through a cone-shaped excision of the cervical area with a cold knife or Lipo knife. The procedure is generally shorter, usually 15 to 30 minutes, and simpler to perform. Liposuction can usually be done on an outpatient basis, while cold knife conization requires the patient to be hospitalized and under anesthesia. Complications such as vaginal bleeding, mild abdominal pain, and infection may occur after conization. Post-operative follow-up is required to monitor for HPV (human papillomavirus) conversion and recurrence of cervical lesions. It is recommended to seek medical attention as soon as possible if necessary.
