Can having chronic prostatitis cause prostate enlargement?

This is an issue that is often misunderstood by patients, many patients believe that chronic prostatitis left untreated will lead to prostate enlargement. In fact, from modern research, there is no necessary relationship between the two. Prostatic hyperplasia is a common disease in elderly men, and its pathogenesis has been studied a lot, but the cause has not been elucidated so far. However, prostate hyperplasia must have two conditions, namely the presence of testicles and ageing. The existence of testicles indicates that there is a normal secretion of male hormones, and studies have shown that the synergistic effect of androgens and estrogens plays an important role in the process of prostate hyperplasia, while chronic prostatitis does not affect the secretion function of the testes and hormone metabolism, so this disease does not cause prostate hyperplasia. Some patients with chronic prostatitis do develop prostate enlargement, mainly because chronic prostatitis and prostate hyperplasia are common diseases in men. There are no studies showing that patients with chronic prostatitis are more likely to develop prostate enlargement than normal people.
