Many patients do experience pain when they have chickenpox and it can be accompanied by intense itching, especially if the pain is aggravated by a fever. The pain is noticeable when the rash that appears with chickenpox is secondary to a bacterial infection or when there is other damage. Chickenpox is an acute respiratory infection caused by the initial infection with the varicella zoster virus, and the rash is centripetal and spreads throughout the body. In addition to the most basic antiviral, supportive, and symptomatic treatments, the most important thing to do is to protect the skin, and be sure to take care of the skin at the site of the lesion. If there is a co-infection, antibiotics must be applied for treatment, and some anti-itching ointment can also be applied if necessary.
