Lumbar disc herniation compresses the nerves mainly with numbness and pain in the lower limbs and lumbar region, coldness in the lower limbs, defecation and urination disorders and other symptoms. 1. Lower limb and waist pain and numbness: lumbar disc herniation compresses the nerve roots innervating the lower limb or waist, resulting in radiating pain or numbness in these innervated areas, which may radiate from the buttocks along the back of the thighs to the front side of the thighs or the outer side of the calves, and then to the dorsal surface of the foot and the heel of the foot. 2. Coldness of lower limbs: herniated lumbar intervertebral discs may compress the vegetative nerves, resulting in dysfunction of the vegetative nervous system, which may cause coldness in the lower limbs. 3. Urinary and faecal disorders: If the patient has a central herniated disc, the cauda equina nerve may be compressed, resulting in incontinence or constipation. Pain in the perineal area may also occur. If the patient has the above symptoms or other uncomfortable symptoms, he/she should go to the hospital in time for examination and consultation.
