The clinical diagnosis is folliculitis or boils, which are bacterial infections of the skin, mainly caused by Staphylococcus aureus, and appear as red filled papules or pustules. To relieve the symptoms, patients should keep the skin clean and hygienic and not squeeze the affected area to avoid spreading the infection. Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory creams such as mupirocin ointment, fusidic acid cream or compounded polymyxin B ointment can be applied topically to the rash. If the rash is large and painful with recurring episodes, oral antibiotics are needed and the diet should be spicy and alcohol-free. You should also be aware of balding folliculitis, which is a destructive folliculitis with permanent hair loss, mostly seen in young adults.
