What’s wrong with waking up in the morning with puffy upper eyelids?

Getting up in the morning with swollen upper eyelids may be related to physiological factors, but also may be a symptomatic manifestation of pathological factors, such as nephrotic syndrome, heart failure, granuloma, etc., and should be promptly consulted to identify the cause of the disease.
1. Physiological factors: Swelling of the upper eyelids in the morning may be caused by drinking a lot of water before going to bed, or eating foods containing more sodium. Usually after self-regulation, such as controlling the intake of sodium-containing foods and the amount of water consumed before going to bed, the symptoms can be relieved on their own.
2. Pathological factors: nephrotic syndrome, heart failure, granuloma, etc. may lead to swelling of the upper eyelids in the morning.
(1) Nephrotic syndrome: the typical clinical manifestations of nephrotic syndrome are large amount of proteinuria, edema, hypoproteinemia, hyperlipidemia, etc., in which edema mainly appears in eyelids, ankles and feet, and may also cause weight gain due to large amount of water retention in the body.
(2) Heart failure: a syndrome of circulatory dysfunction caused by myocardial tension or contractile dysfunction, in which the volume of blood discharged by the heart is insufficient to maintain the metabolic needs of the tissues. Patients may suffer from venous stasis in the circulation, with plasma components permeating the eyelid tissues, resulting in symptoms of edema.
(3) Staphylococcal infection: mainly due to staphylococcal infection, the patient’s eye affected area may appear red, swollen, hot, painful inflammatory reaction, may also be accompanied by boils, pustules and so on.
After waking up in the morning with swollen upper eyelids and excluding physiological factors, you should consult a doctor in time to find out the cause of the disease, and if necessary, carry out appropriate treatment.
