A new crown antigen test will not be positive for the common cold alone.
Common colds are usually caused by viral infections in the upper respiratory tract. Common viruses include parainfluenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus, adenovirus, coxsackie virus, etc. Their clinical manifestations are mainly cough, runny nose, sneezing, nasal congestion and other symptoms.
While the pathogen of new coronavirus pneumonia is new coronavirus, its clinical manifestations are mainly fever, dry cough, malaise and other symptoms. Both symptoms are similar, but the etiology is different.
The new coronavirus antigen specifically detects the N or S protein of the new coronavirus, while the common cold virus does not have these structures and usually does not test positive. However, the antigen-antibody reaction can cause false positives due to the presence of some interfering factors.
Antigen test results are not a substitute for nucleic acid test results. If there is a suspected case, report it to your local community immediately.
Tip: In this article, the terms “new coronavirus pneumonia” and “new coronavirus pneumonia” were renamed to “new coronavirus infection” on December 26, 2022, as announced by the National Health Commission.
