The presence of an abscess in the sacrococcygeal area, i.e. a localized infection, usually requires incision and drainage even if it has not broken down, and if the pus is more pronounced, bacterial cultures and drug sensitivity tests are required. In the meantime, treatment with a broad-spectrum antibiotic will be carried out while waiting for the results of the drug sensitivity test. If the results of the drug sensitivity test are positive, targeted medication will be helpful in controlling the inflammation. If the abscess is large, debridement is needed. After debridement, the wound should not be sutured and drainage should be placed to allow the pus to flow out. Only when the wound is fresh or there is no bacterial growth in the bacterial culture, can the wound be debrided and sutured, otherwise it is easy to recur.
