Rabies vaccination can be given without a dog bite. Rabies vaccination can be given to two types of people, namely post-bite prophylaxis and no-bite prophylaxis. Since rabies is a fatal disease with a mortality rate of nearly 100%, rabies vaccination should be given immediately after being bitten or scratched by a dog or other animal that may carry the rabies virus. Generally, one dose of vaccine is given at 0, 3, 7, 14 and 28 days after the injury, and anti-rabies serum should be used in combination in patients with severe bites. Rabies vaccine can also be administered prophylactically to healthy people who have not been bitten by a dog, such as workers in infected areas who are at high risk of being bitten or who have access to the rabies virus.
