Cistanchis is a traditional Chinese medicine for tonifying the kidney, sweet, salty and warm in nature, belonging to the kidney meridian and the large intestine meridian. It has the effect of tonifying kidney yang, lubricating the bowels and benefiting essence and blood. It is used for deficiency of kidney yang, insufficient essence and blood, impotence and premature ejaculation, infertility with uterine coldness, cold pain in the waist and knees, weakness of muscles and bones, dryness of intestines and fluids, and constipation. This medicine is suitable for people with deficiency of kidney yang (deficiency of yang energy in the kidneys), infertility and constipation. Because of its laxative effect, it is not suitable for patients with spleen deficiency and loose stools (thin and unformed feces); because of its warming and tonic properties, it is also not suitable for patients with yin deficiency and fire (deficiency of yin and essence in the body, resulting in hyperactive fire).
