Can gingivitis heal on its own?

Gingivitis may have various levels of severity, and it is possible for it to heal on its own when the inflammation is not severe. Gingivitis is an inflammatory change that occurs in the gum tissue. These inflammatory changes can be mild or severe. In mild cases, only swelling of the gums can be felt, while in severe cases, a more serious condition such as pus overflowing from the gums may occur. Mild inflammation can be prevented from progressing or even resolved with effective oral hygiene. Inflammation is mainly due to bacterial infection. Effective oral hygiene, such as rinsing with salt water, does remove and reduce bacteria, and these measures also reduce food debris and change the environment in which bacteria live. It does make gingivitis heal itself. Gingivitis that has progressed to the abscess stage is a more serious condition of gingivitis. In this case, surgical incision and drainage must be done with the help of a doctor to get satisfactory results. It is indeed possible for gingivitis to heal itself in the mild stage. Oral hygiene and good habits need to be maintained. If the symptoms worsen, visit your doctor for professional treatment.
