How to properly understand TCM?

When it comes to Chinese medicine, it is easy to immediately think of an old man with white hair and a long beard, holding silver needles or herbs in his hands. It is true that this was the main way of practicing Chinese medicine in ancient times. But is this all there is to Chinese medicine? The answer is no, Chinese medicine is the summation of thousands of years of human experience, reflecting the simple dialectical materialism, philosophy and natural science, she is constantly absorbing the crystallization of advanced science and technology in social development, Chinese medicine also needs to continue to develop, not stay at a certain point in time. The development of Western medicine also has a similar process. It is only due to the development of natural sciences, especially the application of microscopy and x-ray in medicine, that Western medicine has moved towards microscopy and has enabled the understanding of disease to be informed. However, the application of these medical examination techniques is not the prerogative of Western medicine; she can also be used by Chinese medicine. The same is true for the development of surgery, which began very early in Chinese medicine. For socio-cultural and historical reasons, the development of anatomy has been affected, making the development of surgery in TCM relatively lagging behind. But there is no doubt to say that surgery is only a means and she is not surnamed Western. So what is Chinese medicine? In my opinion, the essence of TCM lies in the holistic view and evidence-based treatment, specifically in different disciplines in different forms, and any treatment guided by TCM philosophy can be considered as TCM. All modern science and technology, methods and tools can be used by Chinese and Western medicine. Chinese and Western medicine are like climbers on both sides of a mountain, heading toward a common goal – the summit. They will surely meet in victory. Therefore, Chinese and Western medicine will gradually and surely converge, after all, what people care most about is the result, not Chinese medicine or Western medicine.
