Chronic respiratory disease and body composition

Chronic respiratory diseases, which correspond to “cough, wheezing and phlegm” and are located in the lungs, are among the oldest diseases in Chinese medicine. In modern Chinese medicine, the incidence of respiratory diseases such as lung cancer and bronchial asthma has increased significantly due to air pollution, smoking, inhalation of physical, chemical and biological factors caused by industrial development and infections, and the incidence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease remains high. Chinese medicine has long recognized the relationship between respiratory diseases and individual constitution. As stated in Su Wen? General Commentary on Deficiency and Realities, it is said, “When the qi is deficient, the lungs are also deficient.” Li Dongyuan said, “The qi of the spleen and stomach is injured, and the vital energy cannot be filled.” The body’s defense function is directly related to the strength of Qi, and Wei Qi is the body’s first line of defense against external evil. “The lung is the main source of qi, the respiratory system, the skin and hair, and the nasal area, and weak lung qi will weaken the defense function and make it easy for external evil to attack. Therefore, deficiency of lung, spleen and kidney is the basic pathogenesis of chronic respiratory diseases. Bronchial asthma is a modern respiratory disease, which is generally believed to be located in the lungs, spleen and kidneys, and its pathological properties are mainly deficiency, because the lungs are deficient in distributing fluid, the spleen is deficient in transporting water and grain essence, and the kidneys are deficient in vaporizing water and fluid, resulting in the coagulation of phlegm, which blocks the airway, and if triggered by external evil, asthma develops. Qi deficiency is an important internal cause of recurrent asthma attacks, while external evil such as wind and cold are the triggers of asthma attacks. Danxi Xinfa? Asthma” “the lungs to clear Yang rising gas, living on top of the five organs, through the Rongwei, combined with Yin and Yang, lifting and lowering, there is no excess or deficiency, the six sexes and the seven emotions of the injury, eating and moving, dirty gas is not harmonious, breathing breath, can not be declared smooth and asthma. There are also the spleen and kidney deficiency, weak people, all can develop wheezing.” Qin Jingming of the Ming Dynasty, in his book “The Cause and Treatment of Symptoms? The cause of croup is that the phlegm and drinks stay in the body, forming a niche and lurking inside. Occasionally, when the seven emotions are violated, when the diet is injured, or when the wind and cold of the external season bind the muscle surface, then the asthma is carried out.” Modern medical research has found that asthma patients with a deficient qi constitution have a low immune function and are prone to upper respiratory tract infections, which in turn are very likely to trigger asthma. Chinese medicine believes that the main reason for the occurrence of asthma is the presence of volatile phlegm in the body. The essence of this long-standing root is based on spleen deficiency, lung deficiency, and kidney deficiency, and this deficiency is the manifestation of immune dysfunction in the human body; therefore, the physical state of spleen, kidney, and lung deficiency determines the susceptibility and onset of asthma in patients with asthma. Fang Chunxian et al. studied 108 cases of non-acute exacerbation bronchial asthma patients’ constitution types and found that Qi deficiency, Yang deficiency, and special endowment were correlated with non-acute exacerbation bronchial asthma patients.
