The duration of taking hormone for IgA nephropathy patients is mainly related to the responsiveness of patients to hormone drugs. Generally speaking, after taking hormones for 8-12 weeks, the vast majority of patients’ medications can take effect and the urine protein gradually decreases, at this time, the hormone medications can be gradually reduced and withdrawn, and the overall course of treatment is about 6 months. However, some patients are slow to take effect of hormone drugs, the use of time can be gradually extended to about 16 weeks. For patients who are not yet effective on hormone drugs within 16 weeks, it is considered that hormone drugs are resistant and ineffective, and then hormones should be gradually withdrawn and other immunosuppressive drugs should be added. In addition to hormones and immunosuppressive drugs, patients with IgA nephropathy can also take ACEI or ARB antihypertensive drugs to reduce proteinuria.
