The best treatment for lower extremity arterial occlusion

The treatment of lower limb arterial occlusion includes general treatment, medication, surgery, and interventional therapy. At present, there is no clear “best” method.

1. General treatment: pay attention to keep warm, avoid hot water foot soak, electric mattress warm water bag use. Avoid trauma to the lower limbs or wearing tight shoes and socks, and sleep on a sloping bed with the head of the bed elevated. Control blood fat, blood pressure, blood sugar and strictly quit smoking.

2. Drug treatment: drugs such as low molecular dextrose can improve blood circulation of the affected limbs, which can help relieve the symptoms of pain; drugs such as warfarin, aspirin, statin lipid-lowering drugs, etc. are selectively used for patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease, hypercoagulability of the affected limbs after interventions or surgeries.

3. Surgical treatment: for patients with diffuse lesions, long stenosis or occlusion, vascular bypass grafting can be used; for patients with short-segment femoral artery stenosis or occlusion, endarterectomy can be performed.

4. Interventional therapy is performed through minimally invasive puncture, using a guidewire catheter to pass through the stenotic or occluded vessel, and balloon dilatation followed by placement of a stent or no stent.

It is recommended that people with lower limb arterial occlusion should consult the doctor in time, improve relevant examinations, clarify the severity, and standardize the treatment under the doctor’s guidance, and should not blindly use medication on their own.
