What’s wrong with a lump on the right side of my neck that hurts when I press on it?

A lump on the right side of the neck that hurts when pressed can be caused by enlarged lymph nodes in the neck, sebaceous cysts, and an enlarged thyroid gland.

1. Enlarged lymph nodes: can be caused by chronic inflammation, lymphoma and so on. If the lymph node enlargement is caused by chronic inflammation, there is usually tenderness; if it is lymphoma, there is no redness, swelling, heat and pain in the early stage, and there may be general symptoms such as fever, night sweating (abnormal sweating after going to sleep, but sweating stops after waking up), emaciation, etc. In the late stage, if the lymph node enlargement is pressurized to the adjacent organs, there may be pain and respiratory difficulties.

2. Sebaceous cysts: manifested as a single, non-fluctuating lump, the center of the cyst can usually be seen in a black depression, formed by the sebaceous gland duct blockage.

3. Thyroid enlargement: it can be caused by thyroiditis and nodular goiter. In addition to pain, thyroiditis can have symptoms such as difficulty in swallowing and pressure sensation, and nodular goiter may press on the surrounding tissues, resulting in symptoms such as coughing and dyspnea.

If you find a lump on the right side of your neck with pressure and pain, you need to go to the hospital as soon as possible and get targeted treatment.
