What if there’s a nest of maggots on your head?

A nest of maggots on the head is called fly maggot disease and requires immediate treatment such as removal of the insects, disinfection, anti-infection, deworming, and local anti-inflammatory treatment. 1. Remove the insect body: Removing the larvae of Diptera suborder Cyclopoida such as maggots in the lesion is the key to treatment. Generally, the larvae can be induced to expel themselves by applying honey around the lesion, or local incision can be taken to remove the insects. If small holes appear at the top of the mass, the fly maggots can be discharged from the skin by squeezing the mass. 2. Disinfection: after discharging the worms, use iodophor, hydrogen peroxide, saline to rinse repeatedly and thoroughly disinfect the wound. 3. Anti-infection: If there is a combination of high fever and other symptoms, penicillin, metronidazole and other drugs can be used for anti-infection treatment. 4. Deworming: If the combination of internal fly maggot infection leads to internal organ damage, use albendazole, chloroquine and other drugs for deworming treatment. 5. Local anti-inflammatory treatment: if the pain and itching of the infected area are serious, topical cortisol drugs such as trimethoprim and oral antihistamines such as iproniazine can be used as prescribed by the doctor. The above drugs need to be used under the guidance of clinicians, and unauthorized use of drugs is prohibited. When fly maggot disease is suspected, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time.
